Activision Blizzard Earns Over $1B in Revenue In Only Three Months
Activision Blizzardjust released their third-quarter financial results for 2020, showcasing their profits for the period. In the space of just three months, the company has made an enormous $1.95 Billion in total revenue. The bulk of this was mostly made from in-game net bookings which we all know as micro-transactions through the popular FPS franchise, Call of Duty.
Activision Blizzard only managed to make $709 million this time last year, meaning through just Call of Duty’s in game transactions, they are up a whopping 69%. In addition to this, Modern Warfare, the soft reboot in the series, also managed to generate more sales both digitally and on disc than any of its predecessors.
As well as this, Activision Blizzard also released each of the subsidiary company’s sales including how well they did through this quarter. THESE NUMBERS DON’T REPRESENT THE 1.9 BILLION.
$111 million was made in this quarter for Activision, with the Call of Duty games obviously having a major play. We will start with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
This years Call of Duty has had an fantastic year especially in its Warzone mode. It saw more than three times as many sales than last years Call of Duty with more PC players logging on. There was also the release of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War which had helped increase the numbers of sales with its pre-orders.
COD Mobile also had a ridiculous year as it had 300 million downloads in its first year. COD Mobile is also set to launch in China. It is estimated to have over 50 million players who have pre-registered as it gets ready to release. It has also been said that have ”they desire to do more with mobile gaming”.
Blizzard had also made an impressive 30 million this year too with World of Warcraft continuing to go strong in sales. As fans continue to wait for the new Shadowlands expansion, we can see from the pre-sales that they’re already well ahead then any of their other expansions.
People also continued to play Hearthstone in this quarter as the player count continued to grow. This is probably due to the Battlegrounds mode. The Overwatch player count remained near enough the same this quarter. It did continue to consistantly earn 10 million this year though with this being the fourth year.
King had done extremely well this year as well. It made a total of 249 million this year with games like The Farm Heroes and Bubble Witch. But its most popular game by far was again Candy Crush. The number of CandyCrush players continues to grow each year as it topped the U.S. app stores once again in 2020.
The sales this year for Activision Blizzard have been outstanding. But just like most things this year, Covid must have had a major part to play in these numbers. Question is will they manage to match these records next year and continue to be consistent?
