Thibaut Courtois

Best Goalkeeper in Fifa 23 - Courtois
Courtois Card

Thibaut Courtois is a goalkeeper for the Belgium national team and the La Liga team Real Madrid. Like his real-life popularity, the talented young goalkeeper Courtois solidified his position as one of the best in the world in FIFA 23.

Career

He is a challenging goalkeeper to battle against because of his extraordinary height and reach, which enable him to succeed in the air. Courtois is known for his propensity for long throws, which he employs to pass the ball to teammates, which adds to his reputation.

Such overhand throws and reach are integral when in the goal. Moreover, the ways he reacts to quick shots is mesmerizing to watch.

Courtois also performs well under pressure because of his ability to time his runs while sprinting from goal to face the opposition. Because of this talent, he can thrive in these circumstances. Furthermore, he has previously served as a sweeper-keeper as well.

Manuel Neuer

Manuel Peter Neuer is a German professional football player for the Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the German national team. He is recognized as one of the sport’s all-time great goalkeepers. Moreover, he is the captain of the Bundesliga club Bayern Munich as well as the German national team. Neuer is known as a “sweeper-keeper” due to his play style and agility when rushing off his line to anticipate opponents. From 2011 until 2020, he was awarded the best goalkeeper of the decade.

Career

Both retired football players and football experts have praised Neuer for his speed, stamina, composure, attention, and consistency, among other outstanding qualities. It is well known that even when he is under extreme pressure, he can adapt to any situation that may develop on the pitch.

At Schalke 04, where he began his career, Neuer won the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Ligapokal. He joined Bayern Munich in 2011 and has since won 28 trophies, including two UEFA Champions League crowns in 2013 and 2020 as part of trebles, and ten Bundesliga wins.

In the FIFA Ballon d’Or vote in 2014, Neuer came in third place after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He received five IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper awards as well as five UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year awards.

Furthermore, He assisted on Germany’s first goal against England, scored by Miroslav Klose, as Germany prevailed 4-1. Neuer won the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Germany and the Golden Glove award for the best goalkeeper in the competition four years later.

Ederson

Next up in my Goalkeepers guide, we have Ederson. The name Ederson refers to Ederson Santana de Moraes, a Brazilian goalkeeper who now plays for Manchester City in the Premier League and the Brazil national team. The Brazilian international player is renowned for taking a variety of chances with his passes, even though it’s possible that one of his opponents can recover possession and give themselves a chance to score.

Career

Numerous football analysts believe Ederson to be a goalkeeper who is quick, decisive, and physically frightening. He is an excellent goalie because he is physically powerful and has quick reaction speed. Even though Ederson is known for taking chances when it comes to his ability to stop shots in the goal, for the most part, he has been able to predict what will happen between the posts.

Ederson cost £35 million to acquire when he transferred to English side Manchester City for the 2017–18 season, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in history in terms of the nominal value of the pound sterling at the time of the transfer. In his debut season in England, he went on to capture the Premier League and EFL Cup.

Despite this, his skill as a shot blocker is significantly less respected than his passing prowess and his finesse with the ball in his hands. He can maintain possession because of his command and assurance while in possession of the ball. Thus, he plays the ball out from the back on the ground as quickly as he can with his hands or foot.

In addition, he races off his line very quickly and frequently fills the role of a sweeper-keeper. According to many of the most knowledgeable football experts, he is one of the best goalkeepers in both the Premier League and all of international football.

Alisson

Alisson Ramses Becker, also known as Alisson, is a Brazilian professional football goalkeeper who competes for Premier League club Liverpool and the Brazil national team. He was born on October 2, 1992. Due to his distribution and one-on-one skills, he is widely known as one of the top goalkeepers in the world. He gained this notoriety thanks to his talent.

Alisson is exceptional while facing just one opponent and is known for his ability to make crucial saves. These saves have been known as the deciding factors in many games and have shown how valuable he is. Moreover, Alisson has generally been highly accurate in his placement, distribution, and placement as well.

Career

Alisson won the Campeonato Gaucho championship each season when he played for Internacional’s senior team for four years. He joined Roma in July 2016 and won Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the 2017–18 season.

Alisson became the most expensive goalkeeper ever when Liverpool paid £66.8 million to acquire him in July 2018. Alisson has achieved success at Liverpool by winning the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Premier League. He received the inaugural Yashin Trophy and was awarded The Best FIFA Goalkeeper in 2019.

Before making his senior international debut in 2015, Alisson played for Brazil at various youth levels. He then represented his country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the 2019 and 2021 Copa América, and the Copa América Centenario in 2016. Alisson won the 2019 tournament and was named the event’s best goalkeeper.

Jan Oblak

Oblak Card

Another one to add to the Best Goalkeepers of Fifa 23 list is Jan Oblak. Slovenian-born goalkeeper Jan Oblak currently competes in La Liga for the Atlético Madrid squad. Oblak is the team captain for the national football team of Slovenia. Numerous football analysts consider Oblak, a tall, athletic, and physically strong goalkeeper, to be among the best in the world.

Furthermore, his prowess at reading plays is just magnificent. Additionally, he is also known for his agility and quick reflexes. His extremely skillful ball handling and ability to leave his line and receive crosses are both crucial when playing against an aggressive opponent. Oblak is thus able to effectively command his area when he is close to the goalpost and performs extremely well in the air.

Along with his work ethic, he has received praise for his excellent positioning, footwork, shot-stopping skills, and poise in goal over the years, which are now more than integral if you wish to succeed.

Career

Oblak joined Atlético Madrid in 2014 for a cost of €16 million, making him at the time the most expensive goalkeeper in La Liga. He set all-time low goals and conceded a total of 18 during the 2015–16 season, earning him the Ricardo Zamora Trophy for best goalkeeper. He took home the prize once more in each of the next three seasons and once more in 2021. Following his continuous accomplishments with his club, Oblak was also a Ballon d’Or nominee for 2017 and 2018.

Oblak has made over 350 appearances for Atlético Madrid and has four titles to his name, including the La Liga title in 2020–21. He made his Slovenian senior international debut in 2012 and won six Slovene Footballer of the Year awards.

He surpassed Abel Resino’s previous mark for most appearances by a goalkeeper for the team in 2021 when he played his 304th competitive game for Atletico Madrid.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

One of the most recognizable goalkeepers in the world is Gianluigi Donnarumma. Nicol Donnarumma, a goalkeeper, born in Italy, currently plays for Ligue 1’s Paris Saint-Germain and the Italian national team. He is known as Cavaliere OMRI. Initially, he was a player for AC Milan before making a significant move to Paris Saint-Germain. He has been around for what feels like an eternity already.

FIFA 23 accurately depicts his status. He is among the best goalkeepers overall, let alone among the best under the age of 23. He only accepts the absolute elite. Donnarumma is regarded as one of his generation’s most talented young players and has long been considered one of Italy’s most exciting prospects.

Many people consider him to be Gianluigi Buffon’s potential successor. Even Buffon has praised his prowess on the field multiple times.

Career

Former Milan and Italy goalkeeper Giovanni Galli applauded Donnarumma for his focus, intelligence, and discipline. According to Galli, Donnarumma can develop into a goalkeeper of the highest caliber. Despite having a large and frightening physique, Donnarumma can stop penalties successfully because he has good reactions and is skilled at what he does.

Even though Donnarumma is known for being skilled with the ball in his hands, football analysts such as Paolo Menicucci and Mina Rzouki have praised his unmatched ball control and distribution.

At the top level of football in Europe, Italian goalkeeper Donnarumma has now played 223 league matches. None of the players or goalies have ever received more during their careers. It’s a fantastic achievement.

At Euro 2020, Donnarumma was crucial for Italy, and UEFA ultimately named him the Player of the Tournament. This achievement occurred before Donnarumma’s summer free transfer from Milan to PSG. Donnarumma is the only goalkeeper in history to have received the honor since it was first formally bestowed in 1996.

Keylor Navas

Next up in my FIFA 23 Goalkeepers guide, we have Keylor Navas. Keylor Navas, also known as Keilor Antonio Navas Gamboa, is a 35-year-old Costa Rican goalkeeper who competes for both the Costa Rica national football team and Paris Saint-Germain of Ligue 1. Many football commentators and analysts routinely place him higher on their lists of the best goalkeepers in the world.

As a goalkeeper, Navas is known mostly for his on-field quickness, agility, and athleticism. He plays with enthusiasm, lightning-quick reflexes, and superb shot-blocking abilities. All of which help him make up for his short height and build. Even without the extra reach, he is lethal in the goal and will leave you stuck in your tracks.

Career

Navas began his youth career at Saprissa in his own country, where he won six Liga FPD championships and the CONCACAF Champions League. He then went to the Spanish team Albacete in 2010 and then to Levante in La Liga the following year, where he earned the LFP Award for Best Goalkeeper in his final season with the latter club. Paris Saint-Germain, a French team, picked him up for his talent and skills in 2019.

Since his debut in 2008, Navas has represented Costa Rica in over 100 matches. He has competed for his nation in two CONCACAF Gold Cups and the FIFA World Cups in 2014 and 2018. He played for the Costa Rican national team at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, when they advanced to the semi-finals and were awarded the best goalie. His outstanding efforts also aided the team’s World Cup 2014 quarterfinal run.

Navas has also won several individual awards. He is frequently regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the world, the best in CONCACAF history, and one of the best in Latin American history. The media has also constantly praised him for his penchant for making difficult but vital saves for his team in crucial situations.

Navas made his debut at the FIFA World Cup in 2014, which was also the year his notoriety started to grow. He has been slowly improving his play since moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, where he signed a four-year contract.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen

Ter Stegen

Next up on my Best Goalkeepers Fifa 23 list, we have Ter Stegen. Marc-André Ter Stegen, a German goalkeeper who competes for La Liga club Barcelona and the German national team, was born on April 30, 1992. He is renowned for his agility, passing, and ball-handling skills. Early on, he was known as a very promising player. He has since established himself as one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history.

He has often been referred to as the Berlin Wall due to his adept ball-handling prowess. Numerous football coaches and seasoned players have praised his abilities as a tall, swift, and reliable goalie. Moreover, his height and maneuverability add a lot to his value.

Ter Stegen possesses outstanding shot-stopping skills between the posts, a lightning-quick reaction, and good judgment. His ability to stop the penalties dead in their tracks is what makes him so dangerous as well.

Career

Furthermore, he played 108 league games in four seasons with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga before signing with Barcelona for €12 million in 2014. He played for Barcelona in the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League during his debut season in Spain, winning the triple, which speaks for how much experience he has.

Ter Stegen made his senior international debut in 2012 after representing Germany at several youth levels. He was a member of the German teams that played in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, advanced to the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2016, and participated in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Marc-André Ter Stegen routinely pulls off clutch saves by stopping attackers with his legs and preventing scoring opportunities, a tactic known as the “German goalkeeping style.” He also has a fine sense of place and strong fundamental goalkeeping techniques, which is why I have included him in my Fifa 23 Goalkeepers guide.

Mike Maignan

Mike Peterson Maignan is known as a French goalkeeper who now competes for both the French national team and Serie A club AC Milan. They came to terms on a five-year contract that started in 2021.

Career

Maignan progressed through the Paris Saint-Germain youth squads but never made an appearance, despite being used as a substitute multiple times. In 2018–19, he received the Ligue 1 goalie of the year award. In 2020–21, he captured the league championship. He later made a €15 million transfer to AC Milan, where he won Serie A in his debut season, and to the season’s team. Maignan debuted for France’s senior national team in 2020 after playing in 37 youth international matches. He was chosen for the French team to compete in UEFA Euro 2020.

From under 16 to under 21, Maignan competed for the French national team in every age division. He was among the six goalkeepers who recorded at least 15 clean sheets in the top five European leagues in 2021, which is insane. Moreover, The 26-year-old goalie can also assert that he has the highest overall save percentage of any goalie who has participated in the main league competitions in Europe.

The trophy for Serie A’s best goalkeeper, which went to Maignan, was delivered to him before the season’s final game in 2022.

David De Gea

De Gea in Fifa 23

Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea Quintana competes for the Spanish national team and Premier League club Manchester United. In the middle of the 2010s, he was famous as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He is a right-footed Spanish goalkeeper who has proved his worth time and time again. His card is rated 87 because he stands 192 cm (6’4″) tall. Such a build allows him to make those long-range saves with the extra reach.

Career

However, he lacks a true face in-game and has a 3-star weak foot and a 1-star skill move rating. His goal-scoring average over 107,398 games was 0.000. He responds well to the GK BASIC chemistry style. He turned 31 years old in 2017 and was born on July 11, 1990.

At the World Cup in 2014, he made his senior team debut. The 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 European Championship, where De Gea started for Spain, brought criticism for his play. As a result, Unai Simón received his usual spot in the 2020 European Championship.

Hugo Lloris

Hugo Hadrien Dominique Lloris is a goalkeeper for the Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur and the France national team.  He has won the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award from the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) three times. Moreover, Lloris has been extremely active for France on the international scene, earning his international debut with the under-18 team.

Career

Lloris is renowned for his quick reactions and wise judgment. His opponents hold him in high regard whenever they face off against him. How he plays the game, especially how quickly he leaves his spot to anticipate his opponents and recover the ball, is dazzling.

He hasn’t played a single minute of professional soccer, despite receiving accolades in the media for being at ease with the ball at his feet and generally reliable in his distribution. He has also drawn criticism for the prominent mistakes he has made over the course of his career. Throughout his career, he has also drawn criticism for being unpredictable and dealing with injuries a lot.

In the second game of the current season, a league match against Manchester City, Lloris made his 300th appearance for the team. The media praised him for his efforts when they discovered that he played a significant part in France’s World Cup qualification.
