Cyberpunk 2077 Mod That Lets You Have Sex with Keanu Reeves Shut Down by CDPR
Yesterday, the folks at Eurogamer discovered a very saucy Cyberpunk 2077 mod indeed. It effectively lets you have sex with Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand. Within a day, CD Projekt Red had the mod removed, for fairly obvious reasons.
As the report explains, a gamer going by the name Camtino uploaded the mod to the site Nexus Mods. It allowed players to swap specific character skins onto different models manually.
This being the internet, obviously the first thing people did with the new Cyberpunk 2077 mod was to swap Johnny Silverhand, played by Keanu Reeves, onto the body of a Joytoy, the game’s name for a prostitute.
The result was apparently less than exciting. First, it was incredibly glitchy. Second, “Johnny” remained fully clothed during the encounter, and spoke with the Joytoy’s voice rather than his own.
Still, the mod was clearly saucy enough for CD Projekt Red to step in and have it removed. In its place, you’ll now find the rather apologetic statement, “Clearing things out with CDPR.”
CDPR had very clear reasons for wanted the offending Cyberpunk 2077 mod scrubbed. In a statement provided to PC Gamer, they explained that user-generated content must never be “harmful to others.” The statement continues:
Therefore, when making fan content, creators have to make sure they’ve got permission from all the concerned parties (which might be people other than CD PROJEKT RED). For the characters we’ve invented for the game, we broadly permit you to tweak the game at will and just have fun. When it comes to models of real people whom we’ve asked to participate in the game, we kindly ask you to refrain from using them in any situation that might be found offensive if you don’t have their explicit permission.
Essentially, it boils down to consent. Keanu Reeves is not only the real-world celebrity to appear in the game. Each of those people signed contracts, which no doubt stipulated what could and could not be done to their likenesses in game.
It’s likely that this particular Cyberpunk 2077 mod was intended just for some harmless fun. Still, it’s good to see CD Projekt Red take issues of sexual representation and exploitation seriously. You can get Cyberpunk 2077 for $30 here or here.
