Recently Bethesda announced that Doom Eternal (If you are in the EMEA region then you can get it for only $20 on PC here or check it out on Amazon here for other versions & regions) will be coming to Nintendo Switch. The game is planned to release next week on December 8th and will be available at midnight 00:00 am ET. In addition, Bethesda has stated that Doom Eternal will take up 18.8GB (TBD). This may not be the final size for storage, but Nintendo Switch users should expect it to be somewhere in that ballpark.
Bethesda further stated that there will be no physical copy of the game and therefore Doom Eternal is only available on the Nintendo Switch eShop or via direct digital codes from selected retailers. Nintendo Switch players will have to wait a little longer for the release of the Ancient Gods: Part One DLC. As no date for the DLC has been confirmed yet for Nintendo Switch.
The Nintendo Switch will offer a unique way to play Doom Eternal. However, players have the option whether to turn on/off the Nintendo Switch’s gyroscopic controls if they wish to do so. Interestingly the PS4 also has the capabilities of motion control, however, the PS4 version does not include the option. It’s pure speculation but maybe next-gen consoles will include motion control since it has been developed for the Switch now.
There are plans for Doom Eternal to release on next-gen consoles for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, an release date has not yet been announced. However, it has been stated that players on Xbox One and PS4 will be entitled to a free upgrade of the game.
Pre-Purchase Doom Eternal On the Switch for Bonuses
Nintendo Switch owners that early purchase Doom Eternal will receive a downloadable code via email of Doom 64. As well as the Rip & Tear content pack. Containing an alternative shotgun skin, Cultist Base Master level, a remixed version of the campaign level with new challenges and combat encounters. As well as a revenant skin that can use in the multiplayer battle mode.
Speaking of which the multiplayer will be available on the Nintendo Switch, featuring the battle mode that pits a fully armed Doom Slayer against two player-controlled demons in a best of five round match.
Bethesda State There are Some Issues
While Nintendo Switch users will be excited for the release of Doom Eternal (If you are in the EMEA region then you can get it for only $20 on PC here or check it out on Amazon here for other versions & regions) on their favorite portable console. Bethesda has made it clear that there are some light issues with the game at the moment. While not game-breaking, and will probably be patched. While most issues are graphical, a significant bug where the Slayer falls through the bottom of the West cannon elevator when reaching the top in ARC Complex. Bethesda has stated that this can be resolved by standing in the center of the elevator to fix the issue.
