Elden Ring Weapons Tier List

Elden Ring Weapons Tier List [July. 2022]

Last updated:

Elden Ring, the critically acclaimed smash hit that rocked the gaming industry to its very core and invoked many a salty response from some western game developers, but we digress. In this MEGA guide, we will create an Elden Ring weapons tier list from the grades of S to D. S being the must-have/use weapons and D being essentially useless weapons that have no value to you and can be substituted for any other weapon.

Now Elden Ring houses an astonishing number of weapons, 309 to be exact, and many of them have unique weapon skills and intricate designs which lend very well to the fantasy setting in which the game is based. With that being said, we will not be able to cover every weapon in this guide, so we will only include weapons with a rating of C or above, as anything below this would be not worth mentioning. Keep in mind, this is a Tier List, for best Elden Ring Weapons, we have narrowed 15 of these.

S-Tier

Sword of Night and Flame

Elden Ring Weapons Tier List

Currently the most well-known cheese weapon in the entire game. Are you having difficulty with a boss? Use the night and flame sword and breeze past it. Are you having trouble in a certain area of the game? Use the nigh and flame sword to get past it. It is the best weapon if you want to beat the game very fast, the legitimate way, but it is inherently cheesy, and there will be some players who lose respect for you just because you use it. However, we say use whatever weapon you feel easier with because, at the end of the day, the developers put the weapon in the game for a reason. That is why it makes its way onto the S rank of Elden Ring Weapons Tier List.

It is located in the Caria Manor. Found in a chest inside a locked room behind the gardens. The Sword of Night and Flame is accessible by using the walkways above. You can get onto the walkways from the Chapel building on the west.

Bloodhound’s Fang

Bloodhound's Fang
Bloodhound’s Fang

The first weapon to give us a taste of mobility early on in the game is something many players will instantly attach themselves to and not let go of. The weapon skill for the blade is called Bloodhound’s Finesse. This skill makes the user slash upwards and flips in the air away from the foes. It is a great distance-making tool and very good early on for giving players a taste of the mobility that some weapons have laid ahead in their journey.

It is dropped by Bloodhound knight Darriwil in Limgrave.

Hand of Malenia

Hand of Malenia
Hand of Malenia

It is touted as the most demanding boss in all the soulsborne franchise, even surpassing the Nameless King from Dark Souls 3. It is her weapon, and it is special for multiple reasons. The first is that it’s the weapon of Malenia, Goddess of Scarlet Rot, and making gamers all over the world rage. The second is the weapon skill known as Waterfowl Dance. It is a series of slashes combined together with forward steps ending with a flurry of slashes. A special property about this weapon is that when attacking enemies, you will heal back some part of the damage you deal.

It can be collected by trading the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess at the Roundtable Hold with Enia.

Rivers of Blood

Rivers of Blood
Rivers of Blood

The most used katana in bleed and blood builds. Although it is used for a reason, it’s highly effective at what it does. It is the best and most aesthetic-looking weapon to abuse the bleed mechanic within Elden Ring. That is why it is on the Elden Ring weapons tier list alongside its amazing weapon skill. The skill basically launches a flurry of attacks formed from cursed blood, this is known as Corpse Piler and is very good at inflicting bleed onto enemies. It is worthy of being on the S-Tier of Elden Ring Weapons Tier List.

It can be found after defeating Bloody Finger Okina at the Church of Response.

Moonveil

Moonveil
Moonveil

Right next to the other katanas we have Moonveil. A katana with similar abilities to the Dark Moon Greatsword, except for the exterior, is quite plain-looking. However, the real beauty of the weapon shows when you activate the weapon skill Transient Moonlight. When activated you sheath the blade and stand in a stance, when you input the command again you will slash and a wave of light will fire off dealing massive amounts of damage.

You can find this in the Gael Tunnel in Caelid after defeating a Magma Wyrm.

Icerind Hatchet

Icerind Hatchet
Icerind Hatchet

At first glance, it looks like an average ice axe but on closer look, it’s actually very good, and there is a reason all the speedrunners are using this weapon. The weapon skill is called Hoarfrost Stomp and this skill spreads a trail of ice along the ground which then explodes dealing damage and the frost effect onto enemies hit. The Icerind Hatchet is really good for spamming and instantly chunking health off of bosses and dealing with a large group of enemies.

It can be found in the Temple Quarter, inside the ruined bell tower.

Prince of Death’s Staff

Prince of Death's Staff
Prince of Death’s Staff

The best staff in the entire game. It has no particular weapon skill which means it can be equipped with any Ashes of War but the most important part of this staff is the empowered death sorceries. Death sorceries such as ancient death rancor are among the highest DPS abilities in the game and they also stun enemies on successive hits, making them quite good.

This staff can be found within a tower near the Deeproot Depths site of grace.

A-Tier

Black Knife

Black Knife
Black Knife

Another dagger that doesn’t conform to the standard dagger nature. It throws the word short range out of the window and embraces mobility like its long-lost brother. What makes the Black Knife dagger special is the weapon skill known as the Blade of Death. It is basically a very anime-like move where the user jumps up into the air and spins while throwing a projectile of scarlet rot at the target. Now what this does is it lowers the target’s maximum HP while also damaging them over time, so overall quite a veritable tank shredder that can be used on enemies with a large number of hitpoints and take them down in a jiffy.

You can get your hands on it after defeating its wielder at the Sainted Hero‘s Grave in Altus Plateau.

Dark Moon Greatsword

Dark Moon Greatsword
Dark Moon Greatsword

A staple of FromSoftware games makes its appearance here as well. A large blade with a beautiful marble-like outer surface hiding the iridescent shade of green that shines through when using the weapon skill, Moonlight Greatsword, which fires a large beam of moonlight. What makes the sword special is the history behind it alongside the insane damage it can output when you plan your build around this weapon.

You can find the Dark Moon Greatsword by going to the Cathedral of Manus Celes after obtaining the Dark Moon Ring and presenting it to Ranni the Witch.

Starscourge Greatsword

Starscourge Greatsword
Starscourge Greatsword

The dual swords wielded by General Radhan when you first face him in battle. These are absolute monstrosities both in and out of combat. They are giant obsidian black swords with golden engravings that are absolute powerhouses. They have a unique weapon skill known as Starcaller Cry. This skill brings the swords together and creates a gravitational field where everything starts to levitate. Recasting the ability will slam down all things levitating. As such, it stands at an A-Tier in the Elden Ring Weapons Tier List.

You can trade the Remembrance of the Starscourge at the Roundtable Hold to get the Starscourge Greatsword.

Meteorite Staff

Meteorite Staff
Meteorite Staff

Excellent staff to use for early to mid-game. The Meteorite Staff also does not have any particular weapon skill making it susceptible to change according to your need. It does, however, empower gravity sorceries such as rock sling. The staff also offers low FP cost spells that can stun enemies and allow you to get some good damage in without getting too damaged.

It can be obtained in the swamp near Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid.

Azur’s Glintstone Staff

Azur's Glintstone Staff
Azur’s Glintstone Staff

Used by strictly one-trick cheese builds mainly. We have seen the sword of night and flame but imagine that empowered by 100x over in a much shorter time frame. The special part about the Azur’s Glintstone Staff is the passive ability to empower all sorceries cast with it while increasing their FP cost slightly.

You can find this staff in the Raya Lucaria Academy.

Parrying Dagger

Parrying Dagger
Parrying Dagger

An essential component for a skilled player who takes the time to learn and master the art of the parry mechanic. It is important in PvE and essential in PvP, there are players who like to cheese with broken weapons and spam weapon skills but a skilled player who knows what they are doing can simply parry them at the right frame in their animation and render them useless and vulnerable.

The Parrying Dagger can be bought from either Patches or the Twin Maiden Husks. Another good part about the dagger is that it can be infused with any Ashes of War. We would personally recommend the Bloodhound’s Step due to how broken and fantastic it looks and feels to use.

Maliketh’s Black Blade

Maliketh's Black Blade
Maliketh’s Black Blade

The Black Blade of Maliketh is a legendary blade with mystical properties, embued with the power of the Rune of Death. It has a special weapon skill that is quite useful and spectacular to watch, it is called Destined Death. You swing the blade over your head and plunge it into the ground, from which an explosion results in damaging all enemies nearby or in range of the overhead swing. Another interesting property of the blade is that it employs the same power as the Black Knife where the HP of all enemies is permanently reduced and they also receive damage over time when fighting against this weapon.

It can be traded with Enia at the Roundtable for Remembrance of the Black Blade, for which you have to slay Maliketh the Black Blade in crumbling Farum Azula.

Dragon King’s Cragblade

Dragon King's Cragblade
Dragon King’s Cragblade

Now there is a different class of swords that are not spears but also use thrusting to attack with them. One of these types of blades is the Dragon King’s Cragblade. This weapon is a unique thrusting sword with an equally unique weapon skill, that being Thundercloud Form. This skill transforms you into a thundercloud that travels a short distance and then lunges downwards at its foe like lightning. Great weapon for lightning builds in particular.

Turn in the Remembrance of the Dragonlord at the Roundtable Hold to obtain the Dragon King’s Cragblade.

Morgott’s Cursed Sword

Morgott's Cursed Sword
Morgott’s Cursed Sword

A blade claimed ownership by the Omen King and was created by him. Morgott’s Cursed Sword itself is another curved greatsword by design. Wielding the blade makes you feel powerful, almost to a sickening and maddening degree. The weapon skill is called the Cursed Blood Slice. It is unique to the weapon and procs the bleed passive when used. The skill itself is a downward-facing slice on the opponent followed by a trail of flames.

This can be gotten after retrieving the Remembrance of the Omen King and trading it at the Roundtable Hold with Enia.

Marika’s Hammer

Marika's Hammer
Marika’s Hammer

Ah yes, the hammer of judgment that holds us back from distributing the greater will’s plans. It is wielded by Radagon of the Golden Order in the first phase of their fight with us. What makes the weapon special is the wielder and how they use it. The weapon skill is called Gold Breaker and essentially launches the user in the air for a second before crashing down onto the ground, causing an area of effect explosion with several horizontal arcs. Although quite a good weapon, it makes it onto this Elden Ring Weapons Tier List due to its lore significance and average gameplay.

Obtainable after trading in the Elden Remembrance to Enia at the Roundtable Hold.

Golden Halberd

Golden Halberd
Golden Halberd

This weapon is used by the first boss we encounter, the Tree Sentinel in Limgrave. The halberd is quite a good weapon to use as it has a considerable amount of damage and range which is quite nice early on in your journey. The weapon skill for the Golden Halberd is quite simple as it only adds some attack damage buffs alongside some defensive buffs for you and any allies present. It is called Golden Vow and fits the knight aesthetic splendidly.

It is obtained after defeating the Tree Sentinel in Limgrave.

C-Tier

Reduvia

Reduvia
Reduvia

An interesting dagger to say the least. When you think of daggers you don’t think of the word range, but yet here we are. It is, by all means, a standard dagger but what’s different about this is the weapon skill. The weapon skill for the Reduvia dagger is called the Reduvia Blood Blade, and, to put it simply, it shoots arc-shaped projectiles of blood a short distance from the user. It is really useful for abusing the bleed mechanic in Elden Ring, which is currently quite broken.

The Reduvia weapon can be obtained after defeating Bloody Finger Nerijus.

Coded Sword

Coded Sword
Coded Sword

On the surface, this is nothing but an ordinary blade with a unique design but it’s so much more than that. The weapon skill is called Unblockable Blade and it does exactly as advertised. It launches a strike toward the opponent that cannot be blocked by any shields or armor. Its usefulness is shown more in PvE than PvP as the latter is more fast-paced and offers less opportunity for wind-up attacks.

It can be obtained in an abandoned horse stable with a broken round table in Leyndell, Royal Capital.

Helphen’s Steeple

Helphen's Steeple
Helphen’s Steeple

Moving on to something more menacing looking we have this blade, the Helphen’s Steeple. A greatsword with looks that can kill and an edge just as sharp. The weapon skill on the Helphen’s Steeple is just as menacing as it looks, the skill is called Ruinous Ghostflame and upon activation it sets the blade ablaze with a black flame that does magic damage and applies frost to all enemies struck, symbolizing the freezing flames of the Norse hell.

You can get your hands on this greatsword through a Tabia Mariner on a ledge south of Castle Sol.

Golden Order Greatsword

Golden Order Greatsword
Golden Order Greatsword

Quite the fashionable accessory while simultaneously being a semi-useful blade. It has a very aesthetically pleasing design and interesting weapon skills to boot. The weapon skill is called Establish Order. It emits a golden aura from your body, and spamming the weapon skill will emit multiple explosions of this golden aura. The Golden Order Greatsword exemplifies the holy aspect of Order and how it is both strong and explosive.

You can collect this weapon in the Cave of Forlorn through the Misbegotten Crusader.

Greatsword

Elden Ring Weapons Tier List
Greatsword

Finally, the inspiration of Dark Souls can be put into the game as the ultimate homage to the legendary series Berserk. The sword is an almost identical replica of Gut’s sword and it is one massive hunk of metal that can dish out damage but not to the extent of some other weapons on this list. The good thing though is that you can equip any Ashes of War onto the weapon which can be very useful and can offer utility in different scenarios. We recommend you use the Bloodhound’s Step Ashes of War as that is the most useful movement and repositioning tool available to you. It is also quite anime and that fits in with the whole theme this weapon is aiming at.

The Greatsword can be found in a caravan near Caelid, Dragnbarrow, guarded by enemies.

Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword

Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword |

We know that dragons are powerful creatures that soar the skies turning all they see into ash, but there are other kinds of dragell, those who rule the underground and live near the world’s molten core. These types of creatures are known as wyrms and this weapon is made with the scales of a particularly tough wyrm. The weapon skill is called Magma Guillotine. Essentially the skill slams the sword down onto the ground, almost as if commanding magma to rise from within and explode onto the surface.

Obtainable as a drop from Magma Wyrm Makar after defeating them in Ruin-Strewn Precipice.

Bastard’s Stars

Elden Ring Weapons Tier List
Bastard’s Stars

A cosmic flail, strong enough to decimate opponents on the molecular level using the power of the void, crafted from the only one born of the void naturally. The flail itself is a good weapon with an equally good weapon skill known as Nebula. You sweep the flail in front of you, which leaves behind star-like fragments that explode after some time. This is very good for clearing hordes of enemies due to the area of effect damage the ability provides. Another interesting thing to note is the weapon skill is shared by the Wings of Astel. Although quite an ok weapon, it is not worthy of getting into the higher tiers of the Weapons Tier List in Elden Ring.

You can get the Bastard’s Stars by defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, and giving his remembrance to Enia at the Roundtable Hold.

Other Weapons

Now we couldn’t fit all 309 weapons into the list but we will be listing the rest of the weapons here in order of their tier.
