Waleed has over 800+ hours spent in Elden Ring, and he knows a great deal about the game. You can put your trust in Waleed to provide you with a hands-on experience of Elden Ring.
Now Elden Ring houses an astonishing number of weapons, 309 to be exact, and many of them have unique weapon skills and intricate designs which lend very well to the fantasy setting in which the game is based.
With that being said, I will not be able to cover every weapon in this guide, so I will only include weapons with a rating of C or above, as anything below this would be not worth mentioning. Keep in mind, this is a Tier List, for best Elden Ring Weapons, I have narrowed 15 of these.
Key Takeaways
- S-tier weapons are the best, including Sword of Night and Flame, Bloodhound’s Fang, and more.
- A-tier weapons, like Black Knife and Darkmoon Greatsword, are excellent.
- B-tier weapons such as Maliketh’s Black Blade and Golden Halberd are good choices.
- C-tier weapons like Reduvia, Helphen’s Steeple, and Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword have lower capabilities.
- There are plenty of options to build your arsenal and conquer the Elden Ring.

S-Tier
Sword of Night and Flame
Overall Best Straight Sword.
Why did I choose Sword of Night and Flame?
Featuring two insane attacks, it deals magic as well as fire damage to its enemies in a massive AoE. On the top, it scales with Str, Dex, Int, and Faith, allowing any type of Hybrid or pure build.

The Night and Flame sword is the game’s most famous cheese weapon. It helps beat tough bosses and areas quickly, but some may lose respect for you. Still, it’s legit.
Find it in Caria Manor, the locked room behind the gardens, accessible via walkways above the Chapel building in the west.
- Scales with Str, Int, Dex, and Faith.
- Deals Phy, Fire, and Magic damage.
- One of the nine Legendary Armaments.

Bloodhound’s Fang
Best S Tier Curved Greatsword.
Why did I choose Bloodhound’s Fang?
The thing that puts this weapon here is its Blood Loss build-up passive, with the addition of its unique Weapon Art that allows you to dash forward to slash enemies and quickly step back to do a follow-up attack.

Early game, many players favor a weapon with “Bloodhound’s Finesse” skill for mobility. It lets users slash upward and flip away from foes, which is ideal for creating distance and experiencing weapon mobility.
It is dropped by Bloodhound knight Darriwil in Limgrave.
- Blood Loss build-up.
- Quick attack speed.
- Unique Weapon Art to dash, slash, and dash back.
- Scales in Dex and Str.

Best S Tier Katana
Why did I choose Hand of Malenia?
Hand of Malenia is imbued with the Blood Loss effect; it scales excellently with Dex, and its Weapon Art produces a beautiful yet deadly storm of slashes covering a wide range.

Her weapon is notorious, surpassing even Dark Souls 3’s Nameless King in difficulty. Belongs to Malenia, the Goddess of Scarlet Rot. Features “Waterfowl Dance” skill – a combo of slashes and healing on hits.
Acquire it by trading Remembrance of the Rot Goddess at Roundtable Hold with Enia.

Rivers of Blood
Overall Best Bleed Weapon
Why did I choose Rivers of Blood?
It inflicts Blood Loss most quickly on enemies, thanks to its Weapon Art: Corpse Piler. Moreover, its regular attacks do Phy and Fire damage and bleed status.

The most used katana in bleed and blood builds. Although it is used for a reason, it’s highly effective at what it does. It is the best and most aesthetic-looking weapon to abuse the bleed mechanic within the Elden Ring.
The weapon skill launches a flurry of attacks formed from cursed blood; this is known as Corpse Piler and is very good at inflicting bleeding onto enemies. It makes Rivers of Blood worthy of being on the S-Tier.
It can be found after defeating Bloody Finger Okina at the Church of Response.
- Fastest Bleed build-up.
- Unique Weapon Art.
- Deals Phy and Fire damage.
- Excellent scaling in Dex with little in Arcane.
- Ideal for Pure Dex or Pure Arcance builds.
- Upgrading doesn’t increase Str scaling, remains E.
- Cannot imbue other Ashes of War.
- Cannot buff it with Magic or Consumables.

Moonveil
Best Int Build Katana.
Why did I choose Moonveil?
Moonveil Katana scales with Str, Dex, and Int, and features Phy and Magic damage and Blood Loss. Its main aspect is the ranged magic attack using the unique Weapon Art.

Right next to the other katanas, we have Moonveil. A katana with similar abilities to the Dark Moon Greatsword, except for the exterior, is quite plain-looking. The real beauty of the weapon shows when you activate the weapon skill Transient Moonlight.
When activated, you sheath the blade and stand in a stance; when you input the command again, you will slash, and a wave of light will fire off, dealing massive amounts of damage.
You can find this in the Gael Tunnel in Caelid after defeating a Magma Wyrm.
- Deals Phy and Magic damage.
- Unique Art of War shoots Magic Slashes.
- Blood Loss Build-up.

Icerind Hatchet
Best Axe For Frostbite.
Why did I choose Incerind Hatchet?
The Icering Hatchet inflicts frostbite pretty quickly, in addition to its Weapon Art that improves this status even more, applying it to multiple mobs within its AoE.

At first glance, it looks like an average ice axe but on closer look, it’s very good, and there is a reason all the speedrunners are using this weapon. The weapon skill is called Hoarfrost Stomp and it spreads a trail of ice along the ground which then explodes dealing damage and the frost effect onto enemies.
The Icerind Hatchet is really good for spamming and instantly chunking health off of bosses and dealing with a large group of enemies.
It can be found in the Temple Quarter, inside the ruined bell tower.
- Inflicts Frost status.
- Weapon Art applies Frost even faster and has AoE damage.
- More damage against Dragon and Ancient Dragon-type enemies.
- Good against bosses and enemy hoards.

Prince of Death’s Staff
Best Late Game Staff.
Why did I choose Prince of Death’s Staff?
Prince of Death’s Staff has the highest DPS for all spells if your stat levels are high. Plus, it boosts Death sorceries that have very high damage output.

The best staff in the entire game. It has no particular weapon skill which means it can be equipped with any Ashes of War but the most important part of this staff is the empowered death sorceries.
Death sorceries such as ancient death rancor are among the highest DPS abilities in the game and they also stun enemies on successive hits, making them quite good.
This Staff can be found within a tower near the Deeproot Depths site of grace.

Black Knife
Best Unique Dagger.
Why did I choose Black Knife?
Black Knife boasts a special projectile shooting Weapon Art, reducing the enemy’s total HP and dealing damage, in addition to having Holy damage as well.

The Black Knife dagger breaks dagger norms with extended range and agility. Its standout feature is the “Blade of Death” skill—a dramatic move where you leap, spin, and launch a scarlet rot projectile. This skill reduces the target’s max HP and inflicts ongoing damage, making it effective against high-HP foes, ideal for tank-busting.
You can get your hands on it after defeating its wielder at the Sainted Hero‘s Grave in Altus Plateau.

Why did I choose Dark Moon Greatsword?
It’s one of the nine Legendary Armaments and it causes Frost build-up, effective against most enemies, and it has a ranged attack from its Ash of War.

The Moonlight Greatsword, a classic FromSoftware weapon, returns. Its stunning appearance conceals its iridescent green hue, visible when using the “Moonlight Greatsword” skill—a powerful moonlight beam.

Best Dual-wield Colossal Sword.
Why did I choose Starscourge Greatsword?
Starscourge Greatsword dual wields itself, doubling damage and doing extra damage to Gravity-type enemies while scaling with Int, Str, and Dex.

General Radhan’s dual swords are formidable obsidian giants with golden engravings. They boast the unique “Starcaller Cry” skill, creating a gravitational field that levitates objects and slams them down when recast.

Meteorite Staff
Best Early Game Staff.
Why did I choose Meteorite Staff?
It features low requirements paired with S scaling in Int, making it exceptionally well for early-level sorcerers.

Excellent staff to use for early to mid-game. The Meteorite Staff also does not have any particular weapon skill making it susceptible to change according to your need. It does, however, empower gravity sorceries such as rock slings.

Azur’s Glintstone Staff
Fastest Casting Speed Staff.
Why did I choose Azur’s Glintstone Staff?
Azur’s Glintstone Staff has the fastest casting speed for spells, which gets more with dex scaling. Faster casting speed means hitting opponents earlier and quicker. It scales S in Int.

Used strictly one-trick cheese builds mainly. I have seen the sword of night and flame but imagine that empowered by 100x over in a much shorter time frame. The special part about Azur’s Glintstone Staff is the passive ability to empower all sorceries cast with it while increasing their FP cost slightly.
You can find this staff in the Raya Lucaria Academy.

- Reduces casting time.
- Scales S with Int.
- Virtual Dex for sorceries.

The Parrying Dagger is crucial for skilled players who master the parry mechanic, vital in both PvE and PvP. Parrying counters weapon skill spammers. Buy it from Patches or Twin Maiden Husks.
Infuse it with any Ashes of War; Bloodhound’s Step is a standout choice for its style and effectiveness.

Best Overpowered Weapon Art Colossal Sword.
Why did I choose Maliketh’s Black Blade?
The things that set this weapon apart are the immense damage output and the unique weapon skill, which deals massive damage, reduces the enemy’s total HP, and does damage over time.

The Black Blade of Maliketh, empowered by the Rune of Death, wields mystical might. Its “Destined Death” skill creates a ground-plunging explosion, damaging nearby enemies.
Like the Black Knife, it reduces enemy HP and inflicts ongoing damage. Trade it for Remembrance of the Black Blade with Enia at the Roundtable after defeating Maliketh the Black Blade in crumbling Farum Azula.

Best Mid-Tier Bleed Sword.
Why did I choose Morgott’s Cursed Sword?
Morgott’s Cursed Sword inflicts bleed naturally, with decent scaling in Dex, followed by reduced scaling in Str and Arc. It has a unique Ash of War that delivers a downward slash, inflicting further blood loss and fire damage.

Morgott’s Cursed Sword, owned by the Omen King, is a menacing curved greatsword. Wielding it feels overwhelming. Its skill, “Cursed Blood Slice,” induces bleed and features a downward slice followed by flames.

Marika’s Hammer
Best Mid-Tier Hammer.
Why did I choose Marika’s Hammer?
Marika’s Hammer has a unique Ash of War that slams the hammer on the ground dealing Holy damage to a large AoE and it breaks poise easily.

The hammer of judgment, wielded by Radagon of the Golden Order, stands out for its user’s style. “Gold Breaker” skill launches the user into the air, then crashes down, causing area-of-effect explosions.
It’s notable for lore but ranks as average gameplay-wise. Acquire it by trading the Elden Remembrance with Enia at the Roundtable Hold.

Golden Halberd
Best Early Game Halbred.
Why did I choose Golden Halbred?
Golden Halbred is one of the best Holy Damage weapons in the early game. It features an adequate range, stance break, and heavy-hitting capability.

This weapon is used by the first boss we encounter, the Tree Sentinel in Limgrave. The halberd is quite a good weapon to use as it has a considerable amount of damage and range, which is quite nice early on in your journey.
The weapon skill for the Golden Halberd is quite simple, as it only adds some attack damage buffs alongside some defensive buffs for you and any allies present. It is called Golden Vow and fits the knight aesthetic splendidly.
- Deals Phy + Holy damage.
- Best for dealing holy damage in early game.

Coded Sword
Best Holy Straight Sword.
Why did I choose Coded Sword?
Coded Sword is a pure faith weapon, dealing only with Holy damage. Its Weapon Art shoots an extended sword slash that cannot be blocked.

On the surface, this is nothing but an ordinary blade with a unique design but it’s so much more than that. The weapon skill is called Unblockable Blade, and it does exactly as advertised.
It launches a strike toward the opponent that cannot be blocked by any shields or armor. Its usefulness is shown more in PvE than PvP as the latter is more fast-paced and offers less opportunity for wind-up attacks.
It can be obtained in an abandoned horse stable with a broken round table in Leyndell, Royal Capital.
- Deals only Holy damage.
- Pure Faith weapon, low requirements.
- Scales exceptionally with Faith, up to A.

Helphen’s Steeple
Best Low-Tier Str-Int Build Greatsword.
Why did I choose Helphen’s Steeple?
Helphen’s Steeple has ample Phy and Magic damage, going on par with Dark Moon Greatsword. Its weapon art deals additional magic damage and applies frost.

Moving on to something more menacing looking we have this blade, the Helphen’s Steeple. A greatsword with looks that can kill and an edge just as sharp.
The weapon skill on the Helphen’s Steeple is just as menacing as it looks, the skill is called Ruinous Ghostflame and upon activation it sets the blade ablaze with a black flame that does magic damage and applies frost to all enemies struck, symbolizing the freezing flames of the Norse hell.

Golden Order Greatsword
Best Low-Tier Holy Sword.
Why did I choose Golden Order Greatsword?
Golden Order Greatsword scales with Dex and Faith, does extra damage to Undead enemies, and kills them permanently. Its weapon art deals Holy damage in massive AoE.

Quite the fashionable accessory while simultaneously being a semi-useful blade. It has a very aesthetically pleasing design and interesting weapon skills to boot. The weapon skill is called Establish Order.
It emits a golden aura from your body, and spamming the weapon skill will emit multiple explosions of this golden aura. The Golden Order Greatsword exemplifies the holy aspect of Order and how it is both strong and explosive.
You can collect this weapon in the Cave of Forlorn through the Misbegotten Crusader.
- Deals Phy and Holy damage.
- Decent damage at close and mid-range.
- Weapon skill has an AoE attack.
- Good against enemy crowds.

Greatsword
Best Str Build Colossal Sword.
Why did I choose Greatsword?
Featuring massive Phy damage paired with Str scaling, the Greatsword is the ideal choice for many Str builds due to its characteristic look and power.

The homage to Berserk in Elden Ring, resembling Gut’s sword, deals significant damage but not the highest. Versatile with Ashes of War attachments, with “Bloodhound’s Step” being recommended for movement.
Obtain it in a caravan near Caelid, Dragnbarrow, guarded by enemies.
- Can buff it or imbue other Ashes of War.
- Heavy hitting with massive Phy damage.
- A scaling in Str.
- Easily break poise.
- Characteristic Guts look.
- Immense status effect build-up for bleed, frost, and poison affinity.
- High Endurance and Str requirement.
- Heavyweight and slow.
- No unique art of war.

Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword
Best Strength Curved Greatsword.
Why did I choose Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword?
It deals Phy and Fire damage. Its Ash of War creates a magma puddle, dealing additional damage and scales with Str, Dex, and Faith suitable for hybrid builds.

This weapon, crafted from the scales of a powerful underground wyrm, features the “Magma Guillotine” skill, slamming the sword to summon erupting magma.
You can get it from Magma Wyrm Makar after defeating it in Ruin-Strewn Precipice.

Bastard’s Stars
Best Mage Build Flail.
Why did I choose Bastard’s Stars?
Bastard’s Stars deals Phy and Magic damage, and its Ash of War causes an explosive AoE attack. It does extra damage to Gravity-type enemies.

The Bastard’s Stars, a cosmic flail born of the void, possesses the “Nebula” skill. It sweeps the flail, leaving exploding star-like fragments, great for clearing hordes. Not a top-tier weapon but effective.
You can get the Bastard’s Stars by defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, and giving his remembrance to Enia at the Roundtable Hold.

My Thoughts On Weapons Tier List
The S-tier weapons are in a class of their own, clearly outperforming others, and they require extra effort to acquire; however, that is completely justified considering their merits.
I suggest looking for A-tier weapons for the early or mid-game and trying to get your hands on the S-tier ones as soon as possible to make things smoother in the end game.
