GTA 5 on PS5 and Series X: More Than Just A Standard Port
The enhanced edition of Rockstar’s 2013 hit GTA 5 is set to launch in the latter half of this year. It aims to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and will also come as an update to PC. According to statements in a recent conference, it won’t just be a simple port.
Transcribed by VGC, the news comes following comments from Strauss Zelnick, boss of Rockstar‘s owner Take-Two. Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, & Telecom conference Zelnick described the company’s stance on remasters: “We’ve done differently than the competition – we don’t just port titles over, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we’re launching it on.”
He went on to say that their focus on full-scale upgrades of the game mechanics, visuals, and performance explains why their games do so well.
The third generation of Grand Theft Auto 5
GTA 5 originally launched on the Xbox 360 and PS3 but then saw a large overhaul for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Alongside a substantial visual improvement and a more populated game world, Rockstar added a very well-received first-person camera mode.
“Grand Theft Auto is now heading into its third generation which is incredible” Zelnick said. “It was a standard-bearer when it was launched, it continued to be the standard-bearer in the second generation, we’ll see how Grand Theft Auto does in the next generation. Obviously, I’m confident that Rockstar is going to deliver just a great experience, but you can’t do that if you’re just doing a simple port.”
Zelnick was also asked about the potentiality of remastering older GTA games. He had this to say: I’m kind of inclined to leave it more as a statement than a question and any update on our release schedule will come from Rockstar Games
