Warner Bros. made the announcement today on the game’s Twitter account, thanking their fans before citing the need to spend more time on the game:

“Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us, so we are giving the game the time it needs.”

Hogwarts Legacy was first announced last September during the PlayStation 5 showcase. Avalanche Software, previously known for Disney Infinity, are developing the title.

Set in the extended Harry Potter universe, Hogwarts Legacy will be a third-person title. It features an original story that takes place in the 1800s, long before the events of the original books.

This new development seems to have divided fans, with some calling for greater transparency from games publishers, while others say it’s better to delay a game until it’s perfect.

It’s also not the first time Hogwarts Legacy has been touched by controversy. Before the game was even announced, Bloomberg reported that some at Avalanche Software had expressed concern over author J. K. Rowling’s very public expressions of transphobia.

Hogwarts Legacy is set to launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
