Hogwarts Legacy: How To Make Money? [My Best Methods]

Galleon is the currency in Hogwarts Legacy, similar to the gold coins available in many RPG games. They are used to buy stat boost items, combat utilities, brooms, and equipment in the Room of Requirement. It is one of the things you need to look for while going for your quests.

The only methods to earn money include selling beasts you capture from the wild, selling excess gear items, and looting eyeball chests and other random chests. A small amount of money is also dropped by enemies when they die, but it is very insignificant. For example, killing an Inferious drops 2 Galleons only.

Selling Beasts

You can capture and sell beasts as a source of income. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Unlock the Vivarium:

   1. To start capturing and selling beasts, you must first complete the quest “The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom.”
   2. This quest will open the Vivarium and enable you to rescue beasts using the Nab-Sack spell.

2. Capture Beasts:

   1. Once the Vivarium is accessible, you can capture beasts from their specific habitats on the map. Use the Nab-Sack spell to capture them.
   2. Alternatively, you can use spells like Leviosa to stop them from running away before using the Nab-Sack.

3. Beast Respawn:

   1. Beasts will respawn after one in-game day passes, so you may need to be patient to capture more.

4. Sell Beasts:

   1. Visit the Brook and Peck shop in Hogsmeade, which is unlocked early in the game, to sell your captured beasts.
   2. Go to the shop’s “Sell” tab, where you’ll find an option to trade all your captured beasts for Galleons.
   3. Each beast you sell earns you 120 Galleons, regardless of its species.

I strongly opt for this method as it allows you to continuously farm Galleons, making it the primary source of income in Hogwarts Legacy. Keep capturing and selling beasts as needed to accumulate more wealth in the game.

Selling Gears

Another standard method to acquire more Galleons is to trade off your excess gears. You can do this on any shop in the “Sell” section except for the Brook and Pech shop because it trades in beasts only. Every gear item sells for a different price depending on its rarity.

This method is comparatively a better method of getting money in Hogwarts Legacy because you will get a lot of gear as you progress missions or open chests.

The game allows you to store only a few items, so you will eventually have to sell them. This method works for almost all of the game’s runtime due to the massive distribution of gear chests, and it provides a better trade value option too.

Eyeball Chests

You can find Eyeball Chests located throughout the game’s world. These chests have a distinctive appearance with a large eyeball on their front and provide a reward of 500 Galleons each when unlocked.

To open these chests, you’ll need the “Dillusement” spell, which renders you invisible to others.

Here’s how to unlock Eyeball Chests:

1. Obtain the Dillusement Spell: Ensure you have learned the “Dillusement” spell, which makes you invisible to others.

2. Stay Out of Sight: Approach the Eyeball Chest while staying out of its line of sight.

3. Cast Dillusement: Activate the Dillusement spell to become invisible.

4. Open the Chest: While invisible, approach the Eyeball Chest and use the action key (e.g., Press F on the Steam version) to open it.

5. Collect Your Reward: Successfully opening the chest will reward you with 500 Galleons.

A word of Warning: Remain invisible while approaching and opening the Eyeball Chests, as being seen by the chest will prevent you from unlocking it. There are a total of 25 Eyeball Chests scattered across the game world, offering a valuable source of Galleons.

Random Loot Bags & Chests

One of the most obvious ways to get money is by opening random chests and loot boxes. You will observe a lot of boxes, chests, and sacks lying in random places like streets, houses, bridges, or in the open.

These boxes usually contain Galleons or some gear item. Either way, you can get easy money from them.

These loot chests have only a small amount of money, which usually ranges from 2 Galleons in some sacks or dead enemy corpses to 200 Galleons in some chests or large loot sacks.

My Recommendation For Earning Money

If I have to recommend one most efficient strategy then that would be selling beasts. You don’t have to hunt them down necessarily but progress the storyline, and eventually, you will come across various beasts that you can sell for a handful of money. 

Although all the methods discussed above are limited to some extent, the selling beasts method is the best one in terms of longevity. All other chests or gears can run out at some time in the game, but the beasts will continue to respawn. The fastest way to get money, a small amount, is by selling gear items as they sell for a reasonable price.
