Las Vegas Karate School To Move Into Video Game Development

Video games and martial arts have always had a very close relationship. Ever since the days of arcade machines, we have been subjected to over-the-top roundhouse kicks and flying lotus kicks all in the name of entertainment. Then as of the present day, we have access to countless titles like Mortal Kombat, Ninja Gaiden, or Tekken that utilize martial arts to the fullest, providing some truly brilliant gaming experiences. However, it seems that the karate schools now want to take ownership back.

In recent weeks, Las Vegas karate school Agelesskarate has moved into the game development game, beginning work on a game called ‘The Desert Sensei’. This title will be loosely based on the life of the real world Sensei of this Las Vegas karate school, aiming to act as both a viral advertisement for the school and a fun gaming experience for all to enjoy.

A Classic Beat’em Up Adventure

The announcement trailer hasn’t shown us an awful lot as the game is in the early stages of development. However, based on the snippets we have seen through the dedicated Facebook page for the game, it looks like this game will take inspiration from the classic side-scrolling fighter Streets of Rage. The player will have access to a variety of different attacks, powerups, and traversal methods to clear each stage. Plus the art style looks interesting in the early stages and will only look more polished with time.

The animations and character models are based on the stunts and likeness of two of the Las Vegas karate school’s own alumni, Rykei Weaver and Cassie Klein. You’ll be able to see efforts that the development team is going to in the search for authenticity. The dev team, Cassie and Rykei went out to the desert to record a selection of classy moves with the stunning desert vista in the background. Here is the video in question.

Spreading Awareness

This change in vocation from all at Ageless Las Vegas Karate not only serves as a novel and intriguing story. It also serves as a vehicle to increase awareness and interest in martial arts.
