The Top 5 PlayStation Exclusives You Must Play In 2021

From God Of War to The Last Of Us, here are the top 5 PlayStation exclusives I believe you must add to your PlayStation library. All of the games on this list are exclusive to PS4 and PS5 via backward compatibility.

More recently some PlayStation exclusives are showing up on PC such as Days Gone later this year. This is following a recent update from Sony head Jim Ryan. Despite that, these games are worth celebrating as part of the incredible lifecycle of the previous generation. With genre-defining games that include the likes of Death Stranding, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Ghost Of Tsushima.

Just before I crack on with the list, these games are first-party PlayStation exclusives – even ones that will, or eventually show up on PC. Plus, they must be full-price releases – not DLC or add-on content. However, if we’re lucky, Sony will add them to the free games list for those who have a PlayStation Plus membership. Who knows, some might eventually be on Play at Home too. So, without any further delay, let’s get started.

5. The Last Of Us Remastered

So yes, whilst it’s still a PlayStation exclusive, this is technically a PS3 title. But it received an excellent PS4 remaster, and for very good reason. The Last Of Us has been hailed as one of the greatest story-driven games ever made.

The Last Of Us is unforgiving yet somehow beautiful. Set in a dystopian future, in the midst of a zombie Apocalypse, an unlikely duo are partnered up to save humanity. This leads to a critically acclaimed story that is sure to make you laugh and cry at the same time.

The combat is heavy and gory, paired with mechanics and optional dialogue that expands the impact of the story in perfect harmony. Enemies vary from terrifying infected to brutal survivors – both with various factions and stages of infection. This adds the challenge and grounds the game in a harsh reality.

Not only do you get a beautiful 4K resolution if you’re rocking a PS4 pro, or playing on PS5 via backward compatibility, you will receive all add-on content bundled in as well.

If you have somehow not experienced this post-apocalyptic survival horror alongside Joel and Ellie, it is available via the Playstation plus collection. You can grab your copy here (affiliate link).

4. God Of War

With the announcement of God Of War Ragnarok, why not take the time to give one of the greatest games on the PS4 a shot. A game the stears the franchise into a new direction with a completely new setting, swapping the Greek myths of the original games, for a beautiful yet dangerous Norse world.

The story of God Of War is well written and paced perfectly, with Kratos becoming much more of a father figure instead of a one-dimensional monster murderer. The enemies are full of variety and can be challenging. This is paired with great combat which is fluid and brutal in equal measure.

The game is a semi-open world with a variety of places to discover and heaps of collectibles and challenges to find and conquer. You can play this on PS4 or PS5 and get it from Amazon here (affiliate link).

Santa Monica Studios have taken advantage of the new hardware by adding a new update, to make this experience just that little bit better. Whatever hardware you use, you’re in for an unforgettable experience either way.

3. MARVEL Spider-Man

Simply put, one of, if not the best superhero games of recent times. It looks beautiful, plays smoothly, and is full of things to do whilst web-swinging around the gloriously designed NYC. The combat is fast and impactful, reminiscent of Batman: Arkham at its best. With both elements combined, this game is just an utter joy to sit back and experience.

The story doesn’t take itself too seriously, with some genuine surprises thrown in there too. It is funny, gripping, and is presented with such quality and polish. Insomniac Games have managed to capture the charm of its comic book roots, whilst adding blockbuster action set pieces and a story worthy of any other MCU entry.

If you’re looking for something just straight up fun, with tonnes of things to do and bad guys to beat to a pulp, this is the game for you. You can pick up the Game of the Year version here (affiliate link).

2. The Last Guardian

Fumito Ueda’s games are well known for the way they manage to provoke the player’s emotions and a real sense of wonderment when exploring these often haunting yet beautiful worlds. The Last Guardian is no exception to this. You play as a young boy marooned inside ancient ruins with only one mission: to find freedom. This boy has found himself partnered with a gigantic freaky dog-bird hybrid named Trico – who is kind of cute in a weird way. The boy is tasked with coaxing this creature through environments to tackle various puzzles and overcome environmental obstacles. Trico is unique and at times as disobedient as your very own pet dog can be. The AI makes Trico truly feel like a living creature with thoughts of its own.

The bond you create with Trico is genuinely heartwarming and is enough of a reason to play this game, as it is unlike the companionship of a real-world pet. You can get the PS4 version here (affiliate link).

1. Ghost Of Tsushima

The PS4’S final swan-song is a beautiful display of samurai culture, set during the real-world event of the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima. You follow the path of Jin Sakai – an honorable samurai who is tasked with defending his island and all of those who inhabit it, to drive out the Mongol invaders.

The world of Ghost Of Tsushima is a sight to behold. From farm pastures to mountain valleys and windy bamboo forests, everything is jaw-dropping. When on horseback galloping through fields and forests, decapitating foes, and stopping every now and then to play my weather-changing flute, I was constantly in awe of how impressive the environments are. The slow and methodical combat system is intricate and smart, with various stances to tackle various enemy types, makes for a samurai fighting experience that is authentic and stylish.

The story of Ghost of Tsushima is of revenge and learning. With the invasion well underway, Stone-faced Samurai Jin Sakai has to forget everything he knows about honor, in order to become the Ghost. A fearless assassin that is capable of instilling fear into the eyes of the Mongols, who has adapted to the samurai’s ways and turned everything he knew, upside down.

If you are a fan of great action open-world games, you’re in for a treat. Pick it up here and begin your samurai journey (affiliate link).

That’s all folks.

That was my list of the top 5 most important PlayStation exclusive games that you need in your library. These games remind me of how great and how far games come. PlayStation is the place to be when you wish to experience games that are capable of carting you away to lose yourself in stories, that will stick with you forever. Just like these games did for me.
