Pokémon Legends: Arceus is Blasting Us into the Past | Pokémon Presents
During today’s Pokémon Presents, we got news of our first ever Pokémon prequel with Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The trailer was nestled in between info about the Diamond and Pearl remakes, which is fitting since Arceus will take us back to the early days of the Sinnoh region. Do you remember this movie?
The internet was quick to draw comparisons to Breath of the Wild, given the sneaking and exploration-based gameplay we saw in the trailer. The open-world concept we’ve seen in a couple Pokémon games before feels better and better with each release.
Many of us went into the today’s Pokémon Presents with low expectations, assuming we’d get an update or two and a 25th anniversary treat if we were lucky. It’s refreshing to walk away feeling like we got more than we bargained for.
Arceus is an exciting new instalment in the franchise, yes. But what it represents is a whole new series of games delving into the history of the Pokémon world. And you get to feel like you’re an important part of the world’s history. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you’ll be building the first ever Pokédex.
If you’re a lore fiend, it’s already clear how and why this is awesome news: we’ll be getting answers to questions we might not have ever known we had. I mean, check out this official Poké Ball artwork. Makes you wonder what transportation will be like, and how Pokémon will be utilized in this historic setting.
Overall, Pokémon Legends: Arceus means we’ll be getting a new series of games from a franchise that, at 25 years old, may have otherwise been running out of original ideas. When in doubt, go backwards.
With Arceus set to be released in early 2022, the next year of hype is something we’ll be looking forward to almost as much as the game itself.
