Exceptional Situations

1. It would be best not to use Killer7 or Broken Butterfly weapons, as they are magnums, not handguns.
2. If you use the undesired weapons, you must start the campaign from scratch, which can be tedious. Moreover, using Flash Grenades for damage and eggs for healing is also against the requirements of Minimalist Achievement. Therefore, it is better to avoid them at all costs.
3. There are also some exceptions in which you will keep the progress of your Achievement. If you mistakenly kill an enemy by shooting the explosive barrel with a handgun, it will not exploit your run as this is allowed.
4. If you kill the Del Lago Lake Monster using the Harpoons, that is also allowed, as it is one of the ways to eliminate the boss.
5. When you have made your way to the Castle after defeating Mendez, you will encounter a Canon that you must use to destroy Castle doors. Using the Canon to eliminate opponents is also allowed and will not reset your achievement progress.
6. Using the Special Rocket Launcher provided in your final boss fight is also acceptable.

Tips To Get Minimalist Achievement

Play On Assisted Mode

Assisted is the easiest of the four difficulty modes in Resident Evil 4 Remake. As the trophy requirements do not guide you to play on any specific difficulty, you can play in assisted mode, as it will be easy to progress through the story.

Unlock Cat Ears

Cat Ears can benefit you when you are aiming for Minimalist Achievement. They can be unlocked by completing RE 4 Remake on Professional difficulty settings while keeping an S+ rank. This means that your playtime should be under 5.5 hours.

After you unlock cat ears, you can access infinite ammo for all the handguns in your inventory. This can be a significant advantage in many boss fights, as you won’t have to care for ammo. Moreover, you will progress much faster through story mode, as collecting ammo is out of the equation.

Matilda Is Your Go-to Handgun

Using Matilda can make your trophy hunt a lot easier. The pistol has a stock that can be bought from the Merchant. When the stock is equipped, you can shoot three bullets at a time which can be more fatal for your opponents.

You can also buy the Exclusive upgrade for the Matilda handgun that will let you keep double the ammo in your magazine. By doing this, you can shoot more bullets in a single go due to the large ammo capacity, dealing more damage.

Keep A Check On The Progress Bar

A handy way to know you haven’t violated any mentioned conditions is to check the Achievement progress. To do that, pause and open the Challenges tab. In there, you can see the progress of all the achievements.

Slide over to the Incomplete tab and locate the heading named Minimalist. If you hover over that, it will show you the progress of the achievement so far in your campaign. You can keep a check by looking at the progress value shown.

If the progress value is anything other than 0, then it means that you have used the undesired weapons or violated any other condition. In that case, you must go back to the last saved checkpoint and play from there.

If the value does not reset after starting the from where it was saved, you must create a new game. Therefore, it is better to keep checking the progress bar every 10 minutes.
