Attack on Titan, with its captivating story of humanity clinging to survival within towering walls menaced by monstrous Titans, has captivated audiences worldwide. The popular anime has left its mark on the pop-culture and at one point was the highest-ranked anime. Even though the series received its Finale and conclusion almost a year ago, fans of the series still want more.
- Attack on Titan universe offers a wealth of potential narratives, from following the Survey Corps to exploring prequel stories or alternate timelines.
- The core gameplay should focus on mastering the ODM gear for exhilarating movement and strategic combat against various Titan types.
- Players need to manage gas reserves, blades, and potentially Titan transformations for a tense and tactical experience.
- Cooperative and competitive modes could offer exciting ways to team up or fight against friends, utilizing ODM gear and unique abilities.
- The game could introduce new characters and storylines that feed into future anime or manga installments, creating a connected experience.
The world of Attack on Titans is exceptionally unique and I would want to delve deeper into it. However, as of right Hajime Isayama has no plans to do any spin-off or sequel series of the manga. Therefore, I do believe that the next perfect adaptation for AOT can come from the Gaming Industry.
The series’ intense action, intricate lore, and complex characters all scream ‘perfect video game material.’ But what would such a game look like?
The Source Material For Success
A core strength of any Attack on Titan game would be its narrative. Moreover, games like Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption 2 are clear proof that the audience wants narrative as well as gameplay. The series offers many big set pieces and several directions for a video game adaptation.
You could follow the Survey Corps on their harrowing expeditions beyond Wall Maria, reliving pivotal moments from the anime is an obvious choice. Imagine the emotional weight of the Trost District battle, the thrill of uncovering the secrets of Shiganshina, or the despair of the Female Titan arc, all experienced firsthand through the player’s avatar.
In my opinion, the video game should follow a new nameless character. However, that would mean that your character would not have Titan powers if we are staying true to the source. Therefore, to make a successful game, the campaign must follow Eren’s journey. It not only allows players to witness everything from the show but, also players can enjoy the titan powers of Eren.
Additionally, the story’s potential extends far beyond the established narrative. The world of Attack on Titan is rich with unexplored territories. Prequel stories focusing on the rise of Erwin Smith or the Marleyan perspective on the conflict could offer fresh perspectives.
You could even see what growing up as the Armored or Colossal Titan would feel like across the ocean. The possibilities for branching narratives and character development are vast, ensuring a high level of replayability.
The ODM Fast-Paced Combat
The true heart of any Attack on Titan game would lie in its gameplay. Here, the focus should be on the exhilarating freedom offered by the ODM gear or the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear. The Spiderman games have shown what it would feel like to move across New York as Spiderman. Therefore, it’s only appropriate that flying through walled cities should also feel exciting.
Imagine mastering the art of grappling through cityscapes, launching yourself toward Titan weak points with pinpoint accuracy. The controls would need to be responsive and intuitive, allowing players to pull off acrobatic maneuvers with ease.
Combat against Titans would be a tense dance of strategy and execution. As there are so many different types of Titans in AOT, killing them should feel unique. Moreover, the game should include boss fights against special titans. Imagine flying as Levi through hordes of Abnormal Titans to get to the Beast Titan.
Resource management would be crucial. Players would need to balance gas reserves for their ODM gear with the limited supply of blades. Perhaps crafting and upgrading equipment could add another layer of depth. However, what the game needs to have is to allow players to transform into a titan.
I would love to play as Eren’s Attack Titan and have a huge fight against the Armored Titan. Fighting as a Titan should feel like it, so the environment needs to be destructible and the scale needs to be huge. Moreover, Titans should have powers that are accurate to the original manga and series.
A Future Multiplayer And Storylines
The gameplay should allow for a Multiplayer option. Imagine teaming up with friends to take down massive Titans in cooperative campaigns. Alternatively, a competitive mode could pit players against each other in fast-paced ODM gear battles, with unique character abilities and objectives adding variety.
I would honestly love to play a Battle Royale set on the Paradis Island. Players would quickly move across the battlefield and close combat would be a huge part. Imagine getting unique powerups that would allow players to transform randomly into one of the Special Titans for a short while.
Furthermore, the single-player campaign and DLCs could introduce new characters and storylines. These could then be explored in future anime or manga installments, creating a true transmedia experience. This level of cross-promotion could solidify Attack on Titan’s place as a juggernaut in the entertainment industry.
An Attack on Titan video game has the potential to be truly groundbreaking. By offering a captivating narrative, thrilling ODM gear gameplay, and a wealth of franchise-expanding possibilities, it could become a cornerstone of the Attack on Titan universe. With the right approach, the dream of taking down Titans in a video game could soon become a reality.
Good job! Please give your positive feedback 😏

I’m a Computer Science undergrad by day, and a gamer by… well, most of the rest of the time. Been around games forever, from the classics like CS 1.6 and Halo to the latest stuff like Valorant and Palworld. Competitive FPS is my jam, but you won’t catch me skipping a good campaign – Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us hold a special place in my heart. Outside of gaming, I’m a huge movie buff. Basically, I’m here to dissect the latest games, share some laughs about pop culture, and maybe even recommend a good film.
