Talos Principle is one of the few puzzlers that have managed to stand the test of time.

The Talos Principle is perhaps one of the most complex and fun puzzle games with deep philosophical elements and puzzles that will challenge you unlike no other. It truly stands out in the puzzle genre and each of these managed to provide their unique experience while testing out your Problem-Solving skills.

Even though it’s not really rich in narrative, it still beautifully manages to deliver a story as you progress and tie the loose knots together. The question as to why the Talos Principle remains unbeaten even after years of its release is truly intriguing and worth pondering.

Key Takeaways

  • Talos Principle 2 is a Philosophical masterpiece Puzzle game that will test your Problem-Solving skills.
  • The narration and story building are not that strong, but it manages to deliver an important and strong message.
  • In Talos Principle 2, you can play as the robot and there is the voice that guides known as Elohim.
  • The gameplay is about solving the puzzles, and you can explore, interact with different things, and play hidden puzzles.

Complex Puzzles

As you enter the world of the Talos Principle you are presented with several zones that you have to clear in order to progress ahead. Every zone you come across will take you to the puzzle where you have to use your handy toolkit and interact with the mechanisms nearby to make your way through.

The first world you come across is quite easy to complete and doesn’t require much effort. It more or less feels like an introduction to the mechanics. It is the second world where the fun actually begins, and the puzzles start becoming more and more difficult as you progress.

The best part about the puzzles is that they introduce each mechanic flawlessly into the gameplay which makes the increasing complexity actually fund. Some of the puzzles will require you to think outside the box which makes Talos Principle truly a philosophical masterpiece in its genre.

Narrative And Themes

The Talos Principle might not appear to be very strong in terms of narrative but that is what makes it it’s so unique. Despite not being heavy in its narrative, it successfully portrays the tale of human extinction as you embark on a journey to figure out the meaning of existence.

You play as a robot devoid of any name and follow the instructions of what appears to be a God called Elohim

You must go through a series of complex challenges to ultimately find a place in the eternal gardens which is more or less a paradise in the world of The Talos Principle. What I enjoyed most about The Talos Principle is that each level you clear will leave you with more questions than answers.

This really manages to keep you hooked as you seek out the truth. Soon you will come across Milton who will challenge your beliefs in Elohim ultimately giving you a hard choice on what to believe.

Gameplay

While most of the gameplay of the Talos Principle revolves around puzzle solving, it will be a sin to ignore the beautiful world exploration it offers to the players. There are plenty of secrets for you to find out in each stage. The level design is spectacular and adds very well to the lore of the game.

The architectures you come across display a blend of ancient extinction and modern technology suited very well to the post-apocalyptic robot-ruled world of the Talos principle.

But that’s not all as it also allows its players to customize their levels thanks to the level editor feature. Therefore, after you have spent quite a few hours and again you can create your puzzle for the community to try out.

World Building And Atmosphere

The world-building atmosphere in the Talos Principle is absolutely Stellar. Every environment and area you venture across is designed beautifully with detailed attention to weather, surroundings, and lighting making the whole experience unlike any other you’ll come across in a puzzle game.

If there is any other game that managed to impress me this much was Riven. Everything from the post-apocalyptic ruins to the modern structures sucks you right into the atmosphere the Talos Principle aims to build.

So, I highly recommend you take the time while you solve puzzles and look around to admire the beauty of this phenomenal game.

Should You Play Talos Principle

I can’t emphasize enough how much you need to try out this masterpiece of a game. It has decent replayability to it as well especially if you like the level-designing feature of the game. Furthermore, you can try it out on VR as well. There are plenty of cool references and Easter eggs that are an ode to popular philosophical literature.

There is a bit of a difficult learning curve but once you are familiar with the puzzle mechanisms you will enjoy them thoroughly. Both Talos Principle One and Two are great titles with challenging puzzles and stellar gameplay. Therefore, if you are looking for a puzzler that will truly test your intellect and you are into philosophy as well then nothing beats this game.
