Like Dark Souls games in the past, Elden Ring keeps Fromsoftware’s option of providing players with multiple starting classes alive. Starting classes are much akin to an empty canvas, you pick a class that is slightly in line with a possible playstyle you might be going with and ultimately fill it in with weapons and items to create your own powerful character. While starting classes do not hold much significance since the early game stat allocation is minimal and can be changed while progressing through the game, they can be of tremendous help for new players figuring out their path across the lands between. Today we will be discussing the Astrologer class and all the Astrologer class builds in Elden Ring.
The Astrologer class is the beginning class for potential Sorcerers. It is a popular choice due to how powerful and viable sorcery is. This Elden Ring class comes equipped with a decent staff, a straight sword, some spells, and decent beginning Intelligence, Mind, and Dexterity. The Astrologer class gives players many routes to go into, from pure Sorcerers to Melee Sorcerers, and we will be discussing all potential Elden Ring Astrologer Builds. We hope you find this guide useful, for more Elden Ring, check out Best Elden Ring Sword and Shield Build.
Astrologer Builds In Elden Ring
The astrologer is the class every potential sorcerer should stick to due to its versatility. While Elden Ring offers multiple classes for sorcerers, such as the Prisoner class, players unsure of what path to take should stick with the Astrologer class due to its many options and the many builds it can blend into.
On the surface, the Astrologer class comes with 16 Intelligence, 15 Mind and 12 Dexterity, giving players more than enough stats for good early game damage and the ability to hold plenty of spells for early game. It also comes with the straight sword, an excellent weapon capable of dealing good damage relatively quickly, you can also infuse it to scale with your Intelligence level. You also get the Astrologer’s staff which is an excellent staff for both early and endgame material. For your spells, you get Glintstone pebble and Glintstone Arc. Glintstone pebble is very powerful due to its quickness and very low FP consumption. Glintstone arc does a lot of damage and will be useful against bosses and tougher enemies.
Possible Elden Ring Astrologer Builds
Being an Astrologer means you can go for multiple builds, for example, a pure sorcerer, a Melee Sorcerer, a Melee build with little sorcery on the side, and PowerSorcerer. We will cover these builds in this guide. One general advice is to use talismans that aid sorceries for all of these builds, these include: Flock’s Canvas Talisman, Godfrey’s Icon, Graven-Mass Talisman and Primal Glintstone Blade. Effective usage of talismans can greatly complement Astrologer Builds in Elden Ring.
Pure Astrologer Build
For a pure Astrologer build, we just take the basic Astrologer class and build upon it while maintaining its essence. The main focus of such a build will be spells and sorceries with a decent amount of melee damage on the side, although not as much as a melee sorcerer.
Attributes | Required |
---|---|
Rune Level | 6 |
Vigor | 9 |
Mind | 15 |
Endurance | 9 |
Strength | 8 |
Dexterity | 12 |
Intelligence | 16 |
Faith | 7 |
Arcane | 9 |
For this build, we recommend an Intelligence level of around 35, a mind of at least 30 alongside high dex. Other points can be allocated to Vigor, Endurance, etc. For your weapon, you may go with a basic sword, the straight sword Astrologer comes with works perfectly. The staff that comes with the class is also fine. For your spells, we recommend Loretta’s Greatbow, Magic Armament, Glintstone Pebble, Glintstone Arc and Carian Greatsword. The goal here is to make this build among the most versatile Elden Ring Astrologer Builds.
A build like this one will excel at both PvE and PvP. Due to the powerful spells and great melee ability, you will be equipped to handle any and all kinds of scenarios. Be it Morgott, The Omen King, or be it an online invasion, this build will ensure you are set for whatever may stand in your way. All in all, the basic Astrologer class has much potential and can be upgraded to be one of the best Elden Ring Astrologer Builds.
Pure Sorcerer Build
If you are an Elden Ring fan, you saw this coming. While Sorcery has always been powerful when it came to FromSoft games, it is arguably at its finest in Elden Ring. Pure Sorcerer builds can be OP if research and effort is put in. Sorcery is also very deeply tied to the lore, with the second area having deep Sorcery roots. Elden Ring offers its players a ton of sorceries and staves to use them.
Class | Astrologer |
Flask | Mostly FP some HP |
Weapon | Meteorite Staff & Dagger |
Shield | None |
Armor | Queen's Crescent Crown |
Primary stats | Intelligence & Mind |
Secondary stats | Vigor & Dexterity |
Skills | Determination |
Spells | Glintstone Pebble, Glintstone Arc, Great Glintstone Shard, Loretta's Greatbow & Rock Sling |
For this build, we recommend an Intelligence level of at least 60 so that you can use the best spells alongside a very high mind and vigor. For your staff, you may go with any staff but we recommend the Carian Regal Scepter. For your Sorceries, we recommend Carian Greatsword, the all-powerful Comet Azure, Loretta’s Greatbow, Meteorite, Renalla’s Fullmoon, and the likes. Go with a mix of powerful, slow spells and quick projectile-based spells.
Due to its very high damage output and ease of use, the Pure Sorcerer build is excellent for both Elden Ring’s PvE and PvP. The spells and their versatility ensures you will be set to face any and every challenge. Spells like Comet Azure and Meteorite do massive amounts of damage to bosses whereas being strategic and using spells like Carian Greatsword and Renalla’s Full Moon can ensure quick victory over PvP foes. All in all, when considering Asrologer Builds in Elden Ring, the Pure Sorcerer is an excellent path you can go with.
Melee Sorcerer Hybrid (Strength)
The Melee Sorcerer hybrid build is an age-old iconic build for Fromsoft build. This build means your character is capable of dishing high amounts of Sorcery damage alongside wielding a very powerful sword capable of matching the mightiest of greatswords and the likes. This is arguably the most powerful and coolest of all Astrologer Builds in Elden Ring, and certainly, one of the most fun to use ones.
For this build, we recommend a good staff, like the Carian Regal Scepter or the Meteorite Staff and a powerful weapon, one that scales with intelligence and strength will be even better, we recommend the Iconic Dark Moon greatsword. We recommend an intelligence level of around 45 and a strength level of above 25. All other points can be allotted to endurance or vigor or mind. For your spells, we recommend projectile-based spells like Glintstone Pebble, Lorettas Greatbow, Carian Phalanx, etc. You may also add in one or more high damage spells in if you want, like Renalla’s Fullmoon.
This build will focus primarily on PvE. While it can be viable in PvP, PvE is where it will shine. The slow sword means that you will be dishing out insane amounts of damage to PvE foes and the sorceries will only serve to complement that. Anyone, from Margit to Radahn, will fall easily before this build.
Melee Hybrid Sorcerer (Dexterity)
Moonveil. That’s it, that’s this build. Jokes aside, the Moonveil Katana is arguably the greatest Katana FromSoft has ever made and this is saying something for Fromsoft loves their Katanas. It is up there with the likes of Rakuyo from Bloodborne. This Katana is an Intelligence weapon that scales primarily with Intelligence and Dex. The Moonveil is so good that we have an entire guide dedicated just to it. It has the sick moveset of Katanas alongside some extremely powerful weapon artes capable of dealing insane amounts of damage.
For this build, we recommend a high intelligence of at least 50 and a high dex of around 30, with all other points going into Mind, Vigor, and Endurance. We also recommend a basic staff like the glintstone staff and some sorceries such as the glintstone pebble, the glintstone arc, the carian greatsword, star shower etc. The spells will aid the Moonveil and give you a very diverse Astrologer build capable of dealing many different types of attacks with devastating force.

Due to the many types of attacks, you can do, this build is arguably the best Elden Ring Astrologer build for both PvE and PvP. You get a weapon that does insane amounts of damage and has a weapon arte that can down a boss in a few shorts and is faster than the normal R1s of most weapons. Alongside that, you get powerful spells that can help maintain distance and do long-ranged damage. This builds ticks almost every box and is in the argument for the best build overall in Elden Ring.
